MEP System Design

Precision MEP Engineering, Built Around Your Project.
D.B.K. Engineering Ltd. delivers integrated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design for commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-residential buildings across Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Every project begins with understanding your schedule, budget, and occupancy goals — and ends with a fully coordinated, permit-ready drawing package.
Our BIM-based workflow in Revit MEP ensures clash-free coordination with architectural and structural disciplines before a single pipe is installed. We engineer HVAC systems, plumbing and drainage, electrical distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems — all designed to meet the National Building Code, ASHRAE standards, and applicable provincial energy codes.
From ground-up industrial facilities and commercial office towers to tenant improvements and multi-family residential developments, DBK’s engineers bring deep local knowledge and cross-provincial registration to every engagement. We are also the preferred Canadian MEP partner for several U.S.-based firms expanding into the Canadian market.

Focus on Sustainability

Energy Modelling & Sustainable Design That Performs.
Meeting the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) is the baseline — DBK helps clients exceed it. We run whole-building energy models using industry-standard simulation software to benchmark performance, satisfy Part 8 compliance paths, and support LEED, BOMA BEST, and Zero Carbon Building submissions.
Early-stage energy modelling shapes better design decisions: right-sized mechanical systems, optimized envelope specifications, and smarter controls strategies that reduce operating costs over the life of the building. Whether you need a prescriptive compliance report or a full energy performance simulation, our team delivers clear, actionable results that satisfy the Authority Having Jurisdiction and support your sustainability goals.
Integrated Life Safety Commissioning to ULC-S1001.
Life safety systems must work together — every time. DBK’s commissioning team performs Integrated Systems Testing (IST) in accordance with ULC-S1001, verifying that fire alarm, suppression, smoke control, emergency lighting, elevator recall, HVAC shutdown, and door-holder systems interact exactly as designed when the initiating device activates.
We coordinate directly with contractors, the fire alarm service provider, and the AHJ to schedule and witness all required tests, document pass/fail results, and issue the ULC-S1001 completion certificate. Our systematic approach eliminates last-minute surprises at occupancy and gives building owners the confidence that their life safety infrastructure will perform when it matters most.
MEP Field Review

Construction-Phase Field Review by Your Engineer of Record.
Design intent doesn’t enforce itself. DBK’s Engineers of Record conduct scheduled field reviews throughout the construction phase, confirming that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations match the approved drawings, meet applicable codes, and satisfy the Contract Documents.
Each site visit produces a formal Field Review Report — a dated, site-specific record that documents observed work, identifies non-conformances, and tracks corrective actions to closure. Catching deficiencies early, while work is still accessible, avoids costly re-work and keeps your project on schedule. For projects requiring Schedule B and C engineer sign-off, DBK manages the full contract administration workflow from design through occupancy permit.
