Mechanical Engineering Services

D.B.K. Engineering Ltd. designs integrated mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, and multi-residential buildings across Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Our engineering solutions focus on occupant comfort, healthy indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and long-term system reliability — fully compliant with the National Building Code, ASHRAE standards, and local authority requirements.

HVAC & Ventilation

We design complete heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems for every building type and occupancy. Our scope includes indirect-fired makeup air units (MUA) for corridor pressurization, energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) for residential suites and office floors, and fan coil units (FCUs) for commercial tenant comfort. Every system is sized to meet ASHRAE 62.1 ventilation requirements and ASHRAE 90.1 or NECB energy performance standards.

Hydronic Heating Systems

DBK designs hydronic baseboard and in-suite heating systems that deliver reliable comfort with low operating costs. High-efficiency equipment selections and zoned controls reduce energy consumption while maintaining code-compliant comfort conditions across all floor levels — from residential suites to commercial lobbies and retail spaces.

Parkade Ventilation

Underground and above-grade parkades require dedicated supply and exhaust systems to manage carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) concentrations from vehicle emissions. We provide demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) designs with direct-fired MUA units and dedicated exhaust fans, meeting ASHRAE 62.1 and NBC requirements while minimizing operating energy.

Fire & Smoke Damper Integration

Mechanical designs from DBK fully integrate fire and smoke dampers at all shaft penetrations, with smoke control sequences coordinated with the fire alarm system. We work closely with fire protection and electrical engineers to ensure the mechanical system supports life safety requirements at every level of the building.

Energy Efficiency & Sustainability

DBK’s mechanical designs consistently target reduced energy consumption through equipment selection, system optimization, and heat recovery. We support NECB compliance modelling, LEED credit pathways, and energy analysis reports for building permit submissions across all provinces we serve.

Design Deliverables

Our mechanical engineering deliverables include coordinated Revit models, AutoCAD drawings, equipment schedules, ventilation calculations, energy performance reports, and National Master Specification (NMS)-format specifications — all produced in-house and fully coordinated with structural, architectural, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines.
